ACADEMIC AFTER SCHOOL ASSISTANCE
Homework Clubs – 5th/6th/7th/8th – Provides time after school for students to work on homework assignments, focus on make up and/or follow-up on any schoolwork. There are certified staff assigned so that they can also assist students with core content area materials.
Title 1 Extended Day Program – It is designed to assist students in areas where they may need additional academic support. The program IXL, includes a variety of skills and content that are aligned with the Common Core and New Jersey Student Learning Standards, is used in Title I. Entry to this program needs to be approved by administration. Students utilize one-on- one or small group teacher instruction and online resources to develop mastery of skills that help boost performance in the classroom.
Mentoring – We have been fortunate to have A.P. Schalick High School students come to PTMS to mentor our students about academic and social concerns. These mentors have also assisted our students with organization and any student assigned work.
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
Academic League –There are six competitions that members of the league will be attending. If the student has a natural passion for academics, competition, and a fascination for general knowledge in a variety of categories, then the Academic League needs him/her.
Anime Club – The Anime club will be open to all grade levels with school appropriate activities and themed anime games like charades, learning origami, and Heads Up Anime edition. This club will allow students with an interest in anime a safe space to express themselves, encourage peers, and play games. No experience will be necessary to join this club and all with an interest will be encouraged to attend.
Arts/Activities Club – Entails hands on creative art projects including painting, paper maché, clay pottery, and chalk work. The students will be designing and painting a wall mural on one of our school indoor walls this year.
Classic Film Appreciation Club – The Classic Film Appreciation Club looks to be dynamic, new club will meet once a week to either watch, talk about, or decide the scheduling for viewing classic films. Criteria for selecting films will be restricted to either G or PG (not PG-13). The film ratings system began in the late 1960's. Films to be considered for watching made prior to the ratings code will be chosen based on reviews in an administrative -approved website that rates films for children of middle-school age. A film's running time will also be a factor in selecting films, as the club will only meet once a week for one hour. After films are viewed, discussions about the film will take place with the students. If time permits, short interviews or min-documentaries pertaining to the film (supplements) may also be viewed and discussed.
Drama/Theatre Club – Mission is to provide students with an interest in theatre and drama as an after school program. We are looking into the possibility of making the next performance a musical!
GSA – Our GSA, Gay Straight Alliance, is a club open to 7th and 8th grade students. GSAs focus on LGBTQIA issues, advocacy, and support by creating a safe and welcoming environment for all students regardless of gender status or sexual orientation. This club will discuss issues on the students’ minds, work on LGBTQIA advocacy within their school and community, and most importantly, provide a safe space for students to be themselves.
National Junior Honor Society – It is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.
Science Club – Provides time for students to develop a project that has an interest to them, research their projects, work on the experiments (if applicable), and work on their presentation for the school science fair.
Student Council – Designed to assist students to share ideas, interests, and concerns with teachers and our school Principal. They often also help raise funds for school-wide activities, including social events, community projects, helping people in need and school reform.
Trading Card Club – Trading Card Club is an activity in which many students choose to bring in their own trading cards for use as a club material to interact with other students. A primary interaction between students, as facilitated by the club, is the ability to safely trade cards with age peers.
Ukulele Club – The Ukulele Club will allow students to be introduced to a new instrument where the focus will be on learning the basic cords needed to play as well as learn how to play actual music. The club will be divided into a 5/6 grade club and a 7/8 grade club meeting one day a week each during the after school club timeframe.
Renaissance Program – Is an incentive program that recognizes students for their hard work and effort in a variety of ways. The program highlights and rewards students with respect to the following areas: academics, behavior, attendance, community service, and after school participation.
SPORTS CLUBS/ACTIVITIES
ALL Sports Club – This club will introduce students to a wide variety of sports such as flag football, baseball, soccer, basketball volleyball, badminton, etc. Students will learn the various rules and regulations in each sport. The mission is to learn the fundamentals of these particular sports, including: hand eye coordination, motor skills, rules and regulations, sportsmanship, team building, tolerance, and competitive guidelines as they relate to P.R.I.D.E.
Cross Country – Cross country running is a sport in which teams and individuals run races on outdoor courses over natural terrain. Races shall be run over courses confined, to the extent possible, to open country, fields, parks, golf courses, and grasslands.
